A workforce for tomorrow

London is one of the world’s leading cities for creative and media jobs - from museums to design agencies, advertising agencies to the performing arts.

  • Over 1.3 million people are employed in creative industries across the UK, with London as the hub.
  • There are 600 advertising agencies in London alone.
  • The UK is the third largest world market for the sale of music -  with London at its centre.

The secret to continued success will be a young workforce - eager and equipped to provide the talent needed by London’s thriving creative and media business in the decades to come.

Relevant

Creative and media businesses are hungry for skills, and they need to engage with schools and colleges to make sure young people get the skills employers need.

  • Students must be aware of career pathways into the creative and media industries – and understand how the choices they make will affect their future careers.
  • Qualifications systems must be relevant to the needs of employers, so that students are leaving education with skills that businesses need.
  • Colleges and universities need to understand the needs of industry and tailor their courses to match.

New initiatives

There are several new initiatives underway to help plug the skills gaps, including two new employer-led skills councils working in the creative and media industries.

But the more employers we engage, the bigger the impact we can have.
