Professional Development Placements give teachers the chance to spend time developing skills and resources with a range of businesses.
Some teachers choose placements relevant to their subject (e.g. science and technology, catering or IT). Last year we arranged for three teachers to visit the Cape Canaveral Space Centre in Florida which allowed them to develop resources to support the delivery of science education in their schools. Others focus on more general skills such as leadership and motivation.
The London Central Education Business Alliance organise a wide range of placements for central London teachers. For example we helped arrange placements for local teachers to spend a day with Southwark Police reviewing work procedures and career opportunities as well as going out on patrol in a squad car. Other teachers spent a day at the South London Press offices of the paper looking at the operation of the newsroom and developing resources to support Key Stage 3 and 4 English curriculum delivery.
More teachers are also attending company executive training courses on topics such as leadership, delegation and human resource management.

Another of our projects links headteachers with senior business figures from commerce and industry. As senior managers in their own right, heads welcome the chance to use business figures as sounding boards on issues such as finance, human resources and leadership. One headteacher spent a day work shadowing a senior executive from the John Lewis Partnership looking at management styles and the organisation of a HR Department.
We can also help schools develop work-related learning strategies and recruit business people to their governing bodies. We're keen to develop a flexible programme of professional development opportunities for teachers across central London.
