Skills for Health

Skills for Health is the skills council covering all jobs within the NHS and independent sectors across the UK.

Skills councils are employer-led organisations working to reduce skills gaps in key industries across the UK.

There are now 20 skills councils across the UK (covering different industry sectors), led by employers but working closely with trade inions, colleges, schools and other stakeholders.

The goals of Skills for Health include:

  • identifying skills gaps in the healthcare sector, in partnership with employers
  • working with schools and colleges to increase the supply of people leaving education with the skills needed by healthcare employers
  • developing careers advice, apprenticeships and vocational qualifications, so that young people can develop the skills needed by healthcare employers
  • talking to government to influence national policies affecting skills and productivity.
