Teachers go Digital

Eleven teachers from central London put their film making skills to the test at a Digital Filming Professional Development Placement at BBC 21CC's digital learning media centre.

The placement was jointly hosted by BBC 21CC and the London Central Education Business Alliance and was led by Erin Barnes and Jody Press from 21CC. Teachers from Primary and Secondary schools in Camden, Islington, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Westminster took part in the project in order to develop their multimedia skills to enhance classroom learning.

The placement explored the management of projects across schemes of work and aimed to develop skills that teachers could apply back in school. Teachers got to devise, plan, shoot and edit their own mini-film during the one day placement as well as learning basic film techniques and using editing software, Pinnacle Studio.

Media Studies teacher, David Gibbs said "The day put me back in touch with what my students feel like when I set them going on a project. This has been a very useful experience".

The teachers hope to use the knowledge they have gained to plan for future projects, make films to support a variety of curriculum areas, develop approaches for tackling film projects and to support Media Studies GCSE and A-Level projects.
