Breakfast at the Bank

March 17 2004 saw the launch of the LCEBA Business Club at Deutsche Bank’s city offices. Created in partnership with oneLondon and City Action, and with the support of Deutsche Bank, the club will provide information and support to London businesses that are interested in working with schools in the capital. The LCEBA Business Club aims to encourage businesses to share best practice and support small and medium sized businesses who wish to become involved in supporting work related learning programmes.

Business people representing companies ranging from multinational corporations to small social enterprises, from all over London gathered over an informal breakfast to discuss the priorities facing education in the capital and the initiatives being developed to address them. Keynote speeches from LCEBA Consortium Manager, Lorraine Marshall Corser, and consultant Professor Andrew Miller, addressed such issues as the Enterprise Advisor service and work related learning. Head of Deutsche Bank Citizenship UK, Kate Cavelle, provided an insightful look into education business links from a business perspective.

The development of Vocational GCSEs and increasing governmental support for work related learning, means that business involvement in the education sector is assuming greater importance. Currently around 20% of all companies in London are involved in programmes which support students and teachers in all primary and secondary schools and further education colleges in central London. The LCEBA Business Club seeks to work with organisations to increase the level of involvement and make it easier for SMEs to become engaged with education business links projects.

Regular events are planned over the coming year with the next event to be held in partnership with KPMG in the summer. If you would like to join the LCEBA Business Club please complete the online registration form on the Business Club page of the LCEBA website or alternatively contact Kevin Simmonds.
