Learning about Law

A group of A-Level Law students from Central Foundation Boys School in Islington are embarking on a pilot e-mentoring scheme with law firm Wragge & Co LLP.

Each of the 12 eager law students has been paired with a trainee solicitor from Wragge & Co to discuss a number of hot legal topics. Following the A-Level Law curriculum, each mentor pair is given a legal topic for discussion, for example the impact of European Law on solicitors’ jobs. The information gleaned from this exercise is then fed back to the rest of the class.

The students have visited Wragge & Co’s London offices to meet their mentors face-to-face and see how a major law firm operates. If the pilot proves successful it could be rolled out to other schools and some students may undertake work-shadowing as a result.

Mr Jamie Brownhill, A-Level Law teacher at Central Foundation Boys School, said: “It’s a great opportunity for the pupils here. They have the chance to discuss legal issues with real life practitioners and see how the theory they learn from textbooks impacts on the real work lawyers carry out.”
