Wanted! Playground Volunteers

A pilot Playground Volunteers scheme has been launched in St Albans Primary School in Camden. Business volunteers from have been recruited to spend half an hour a week with children at the school, playing a variety of playground games.

Teachers at the school had noticed that pupils would benefit from engaging in more structured activities. Volunteers were recruited from Bird & Bird, Lexis Nexis and Styles & Wood, to visit the school during lunchtime to play playground games such as skipping and ball games with a group of Yr3 and Yr4 pupils.

Camden Education Business Partnership who set up the scheme, are looking to expand the project by recruiting other businesses that can offer enthusiastic volunteers on a regular basis. Full training is given and all volunteers undergo a police check. Sessions are monitored by midday supervisors who have also undergone training.

Emma Hill from Camden Education Business Partnership said: "It's really inspiring to see how enthusiastic the children are and how much both the volunteers and pupils enjoy themselves. We hope in the future we can bring the project to other primary schools in Camden."

If your company is interested in supporting the programme or you would like to find out more, please contact Emma Hill at Camden Education Business Partnership on 020 7974 8250 or email emma.hill@camden.gov.uk
